Teaching Assistant Contract
As the parent of a child who will be working for the DC Summer Math Institute for the summer of 2025, I attest that my child understands and agrees to the following policies concerning his or her employment:
1. My child will log on to the daily Zoom call no later than 12:00 pm and leave no earlier than 5:30 pm (unless otherwise excused early) on each of the days of the Institute - June 16-27th, Monday through Friday. Excessive tardiness may result in a slight reduction in pay. If an emergency occurs and my child knows he or she will be late on a given day, he or she will notify Andrew Callard immediately via email at dcsummermath@gmail.com.
2. My child is committed to attending the mandatory in-person orientation for all teaching assistants on June 13th, 2025, from 2 pm - 5 pm. (The location is to be determined, but it will be in the DC metro area). My child is also committed to logging on to the virtual pre-camp meeting via Zoom for the entire TA staff to be held in late April/early May. He or she will be informed about the specifics in early April
3. My child will be paid a salary upon completing the second shift after camp has completed on either Saturday, June 28th or Sunday June 29th, through either a written check, or upon request, a Venmo payment to the child or one of the parents. If for some reason my child has to miss one or more days due to illness, my child’s salary will be reduced 10% for each day missed.
4. My child will refrain from using his or her cell phone for calls, texts, etc (except when it may be needed for Institute activities) during his or her hours of employment so he or she can be fully present to the student participants.
5. My child commits to not pursuing any other commitments (internships, other employment, sports camps, etc) that might conflict in any way with my responsibilities at the DC Summer Math Institute. My child understands that if for some reason the hours for a previous commitment are changed beyond my control, resulting in a scheduling conflict with his or her DCSMI responsibilities, he or she will forego the other commitment so that he or she can devote himself or herself fully to the DCSMI responsibilities, if a choice needs to be made.
6. As a parent, I commit to not scheduling travel (eg flights, road trips, etc) that might conflict with my child logging on from tablet or laptop in an area with solid WiFi - NOT a personal hotspot from a phone - during the 12 pm - 5:30 pm timeframe each day from June 17th - 20th and June 23-27th, and during the 11 am - 5:30 pm timeframe on the first day of camp, June 16th. I also commit to not scheduling travel for which reasonable delays would prevent my child from logging on from a stable Wi-Fi via a tablet or laptop during the prescribed hours of responsibility.
7. My child will regularly check his or her Sidwell Friends email during the school year and summer before camp to be kept up to date on any pending tasks and announcements from the director, Andrew Callard.
8. My child commits to abide by all policies for behavior on campus as outlined in the SFS handbook, and my child understands that any serious infractions may result in pay reduction or termination from employment.
By clicking the box below, I confirm that both my child and I have read and understood these policies.
